What We Believe

Our Denomination

Living Word Foursquare is an officially sanctioned church of The International Church of the Foursquare Gospel and our Senior Pastor, Scott Chambers, is a licensed and ordained pastor through Foursquare. In the old days, being "Foursquare" meant being forthright, solid and someone you could count on for good Biblical truth.  Ever since our founder Amiee Semple McPherson started our movement, we at REACH strive to be that solid foundation in people's lives.  We subscribe to Foursquare's statement of beliefs about the Christian life and if you wish to learn more about what we believe you can visit our international website at http://www.foursquare.org/about.

Our Distinctives

While every Foursquare church is unified around the same theological beliefs, each church is different and offers a unique flavor of the Christian life. REACH is a modern, youthful expression of the Christian faith with three specific distinctives:

  • Faith

  • Love

  • Purpose

These three distinctives point to three directions in our life that we are called to live out.

We live vertically in relationship with God by FAITH in Christ Jesus, God's Son.  We emphasize that our own personal walk with Jesus and trust in Him everyday is the most important aspect of our lives.  It is by faith that we can expect to be forgiven, saved and enter into the Kingdom of God. (Ephesians 2:8-9, John 6:35, John 14:6)

We live horizontally in relationship with our fellow neighbors with LOVE and genuinely strive to care for those around us in our circle of influence. (Mark 12:31, 1 John 4:7-8)

We also live horizontally in relationship with those around us who do not proclaim Christ as Lord with PURPOSE and understand that our life is to be lived on mission pursuing others and telling them the Good News about Jesus Christ so that they might find salvation, peace and rest.  (Matthew 28:19-20, Acts 1:8)

Ultimately we believe this is a cycle that repeats itself again and again for the Glory of God. Our faith leads us to love which leads us to our purpose and it begins anew once again in each new person who comes to meet Jesus Christ.

Our Motto

In Matthew 14:31 the Bible tells us that when Jesus's friend Peter was sinking in doubt that "Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him..." (ESV)  At REACH we want to model our lives after the Son of God and to remind us of our calling our motto is:

Just like Jesus, who caught His friend when He was in trouble - we are called to extend ourselves to those around us who are sinking in doubt and disbelief.  We believe that by reaching outside of our own secluded world to others in need, we can, through God's help, further His kingdom and bring about peace, salvation and God's love everywhere we go.
